Sense

Installation by Reinhold Bidner and Karl Zechenter

The skin is the largest human organ and at the same time the one that digital transformation is least beneficial. Virtual reality has brought seeing, hearing and a sense of balance into virtual worlds, and there are products for tasting and smelling that seem more real to us than their natural role models. At best, we keep skin warm.

Reinhold Bidner and Karl Zechenter are digitally rediscovering the continent of skin. With the installation “Sense” we explore sounds and images that touch us, that cause involuntary tingling and goose bumps.

The installation will be shown as part of the “Skin Contact” exhibition at the Fronfeste Neumarkt. “Hautkontakt” shows works by artists who deal with skin, including Elisabeth Schmirl, Gertrud Fischbacher, Marius Schebella and Levi Pritz, as well as workpieces and tools from one of the last tanneries in Salzburg. The exhibition was curated by Ingrid Weese-Weydemann.
