Our project WE ARE is in full swing and we are already looking forward to the Game Camp, which will take place from July 7–11 in the city of Salzburg. Our main target group in the project is children and young people. Their protection is especially close to our hearts. That’s why, with the help of akzente Salzburg and based on templates from bOJA, together with the game designers and media artists who work at WE ARE, we developed a child and youth protection concept. We are now presenting this concept to the public.
At this link the child and youth protection concept can be viewed as a PDF.
WE ARE CHILD AND YOUTH PROTECTION CONCEPT
In principle
At WE ARE we will:
- contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment for children and young people.
- take the opinions and concerns of children and young people seriously and support them as individuals.
- treat all children and young people with respect.
- exercise educational measures in a non-violent and non-humiliating manner.
- follow the “two-adult rule” / “four-eyes principle” wherever possible, i.e., ensure that another adult is present or within reach when working one-on-one with a child or young person.
- when photographing, filming or reporting for public relations, respect the dignity and need for protection of children and young people, handle personal data carefully and demand the same from third parties who receive information about children and young people.
At the WE ARE workshops and at the WE ARE Game Camp we will:
- always have at least one contact person from gold extra on site: Sophia Reiterer and/or Elisabeth Stiebritz
- in the event of conflicts between children and young people, first try to resolve the conflicts with the parties involved and then refer to / contact the contact person. Parents will be notified as a last resort.
- pay attention and not look away and report suspected cases to:

Protection against sexual assault
At WE ARE we will:
- not establish private contact with children via mobile phone or social media.
- not engage in inappropriate or culturally insensitive touching (hugging, stroking, kissing, touching children)
- not make ambiguous jokes or remarks in the presence of children — not even among ourselves, not even ironically.
- leave the door open during one-on-one conversations between adults and children or in cramped room situations
ensure that children can use the toilet undisturbed. If no separate toilets for children and adults are available, we will time our own toilet visits so that children can use the toilet in peace and undisturbed.
Public relations and media work
- All media content is based on the values of respect and equality and upholds the dignity of the person depicted.
- The creation of media content requires the consent of the respective children and young people and the parents or legal guardians (if the young people are minors). In general reports about a project, this can be done verbally by the reporting person themselves or in advance by staff in the projects. In reports about individual children and young people, detailed information about the purpose and use of the media content is provided and written consent from the child/young person or their parents or carers is obtained.
- Before creating media content, the respective children/young people and their parents or legal guardians (if the young people are minors) are informed in an understandable manner about the purpose and use via the registration form.
- The right of children to their own image is respected at all times. They can withdraw their consent at any time, even afterwards, by contacting sophia.reiterer@goldextra.com or elisabeth.stiebritz@goldextra.com.
