Workshop AR and Activism
Artistic cooperation
by Sophia Reiterer, Sonja Prlić and Karl Zechenter
and students at the University of Salzburg and Mozarteum Salzburg (focus on science and art)
In a workshop as part of the course “Artistic Interventions and Climate Activism” (course leader Prof. Elke Zobl), Reiterer, Prlic and Zechenter explored augmented reality and artistic forms of activism together with students.
The focus was on a practical project in which the students were given an introduction to the AR editor from Artificial Museum and undertook their own research on the topic of traffic at neuralgic locations in Salzburg's city center. Observation protocols were recorded at Platzl and Anton-Neumayr-Platz: Who is traveling in which direction with which means of transport? What interests, conflicts and disturbances are there? At both locations, many different interests and road uses clash between deliveries, cars, tourist strollers and professional cyclists. Based on these observations, we jointly developed an overview of the use of the traffic areas.
In a workshop as part of the course “Artistic Interventions and Climate Activism” (course leader Prof. Elke Zobl), Reiterer, Prlic and Zechenter worked with students on augmented reality and artistic forms of activism.
In a second unit, additional interviews were conducted with as many people as possible who typically use the traffic area, resulting in interesting cross-connections where vendors and cyclists or motorists and pedestrians shared the same views - a glimmer of hope for the notoriously complicated traffic situation in Salzburg.
The interviews will be incorporated into the Critical City Cycling project and are part of the work dealing with the Platzl and Anton-Neumayr Platz.
