Augmented Reality Communities is starting its second practical project. Together with Salzburg bicycle activists, we are developing a collaborative augmented reality game for public spaces. Susanne Lipinski (Kollektiv Kollinski), Harald Gaukel (Radlobby Salzburg), Tara Dirala and Sophie Rutzinger (Spicy Cycling Girls) and Magdalena Konfron (urban planner) will be involved. Daniela Weiss and Jascha Ehrenreich from the Artificial Museum are also back as partners for software development in our second practical project.

In the first workshop in March 2025, we collected ideas and visited neuralgic bicycle intersections. Linzergassen slalom, clearing trees for better visibility - or a cycle lane in the middle of the Salzach? In three further workshop phases, we developed ideas for a game and looked at specific locations in the city of Salzburg, for which we developed augmented reality interventions and mini-games with the help of the Artificial Museum team.
Two further workshops took place with students from Science & Art (Artistic Interventions and Climate Activism by Elke Zobl), in which the students conducted interviews with road users at two locations (Platzl and Neumayr-Platz), which were incorporated into the game.

The Augmented Reality Bicycle Game, titled Critical City Cycling was available to play on June 19th from 4:00 PM. The meeting and starting point was at Volksgarten Salzburg, Hundertwasserallee (Salzburg).

Critical City Cycling - An Augmented Reality Bicycle Game (Salzburg Edition)
How dangerous are Salzburg's junctions? What's the best way to get through the Sterneckstraße jungle and what type of cyclist are you?

As part of the Augmented Reality Communities research project, bicycle activists, artists and spatial planners have jointly designed an AR bicycle game for the public space. Look forward to AR installations, intersection chaos and changing perspectives!

A cooperation between gold extra and Wissenschaft & Kunst with Artificial Museum, spicy cycling girls*, Radlobby, Kollektiv Kollinski
